This piece, number 63 in our edition of 198 “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” pieces, is centered around an autographed photo of Bob Friend, the pitcher who threw Pete Rose’s first hit on 4-13-63.  The focus, however, is that of the career of Pete Rose, nicknamed “Charlie Hustle.” Bill has assembled an impressive array of mementos with which to illustrate Rose’s impressive career and its highlights.
The first card is dated 1963 and features Pete as the All Star Rookie. Next up is a 1986 card (year of retirement as an active player).
The card mounted with the autographed First Day Cover is 1978 along with the postmark of may 5, 1978 which was the date Rose collected his 3,000th career hit.
Also featured is a lifetime achievement pin, 4,526 hits from 1963-1986.
Finally, the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” first day of issue stamp and postmark are what ensures this limited status paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the song we all associate with the American pastime of Baseball.

Pete Rose has a lifetime Batting Average of .303 making him a natural to be included in History in Vogue‘s Take Me Out to the Ballgame edition.
